Overview
Elemental Energies delivered integrated decommissioning solutions for a complex offshore campaign in the United Arab Emirates, providing full lifecycle decommissioning project management and engineering for deep well abandonment under challenging conditions.
Challenge
The project presented major technical challenges, including milling deep and extended casing windows at 7,400–7,600 ft MDBRT – well beyond typical slot recovery depths. Minimum P&A requirements drove milled sections of approximately 200 ft through heavy P-110 casing, significantly increasing operational complexity and risk in a mobile gas environment.
Solution
A fully integrated decommissioning approach aligned wells and facilities planning from early engineering through execution. A bespoke abandonment solution was developed using a combined inflatable plug, Bismuth alloy barrier, and cement system, reducing milling requirements and delivering a robust, regulator-approved P&A outcome on first deployment.
